Irish Association of Suicidology invites organisations to develop an Accreditation Model
The Irish Association of Suicidology (IAS) has commenced the process of establishing an Accreditation Model for voluntary / community organisations working in the suicide prevention sector. The idea of an accreditation model was proposed to the former Minister of State with responsibility for Mental Health, Mr. John Maloney in November 2010. The proposal was accepted and IAS has undertaken some preliminary work to develop such a model.
The favoured Accreditation Model is one which is designed and owned by organisations working in the sector. The model must set minimum standards with regard to good governance, training and education and client service. However the standards must encourage and foster cooperation and continued development of best practise within the sector.
In order to advance the development of the model we are inviting all organisations involved in the sector to have their say. Whether the core objectives of your organisation or part of your organisations work is in the field of suicide prevention we would ask you to express your interest in developing this model by emailing projects@ias.ie
The IAS intends to have nine regional consultation meetings in May, please see dates and venues below. Organisations which express an interest in being involved will be invited to these meeting. A number of organisations will then be selected to form a steering committee which will decide and agree the scope of the accreditation model.
